Box graders are useful for almost any equestrian, smallholder, or groundskeeper. The Winton Box Grader is ideal for levelling grounds and tracks. This attachment is designed for levelling the ground by filling potholes and smoothing the surface. However, it is also perfect for seedbed preparation, promoting soil aeration and drainage.

How To – WRB Box Grader

How Does It Work?

The box grader has height adjustable ripper tines perfect for ripping the soil to a variety of depths. These can be set at the lowest point for ripping and loosening up compacted soil. Alternatively, the tines can be set at the highest point, or removed, to use the implement as a grader.

On the opposite side of the attachment from the linkage are two scraper blades, one curving towards the tractor and one away. Both the front and rear scraper blades can level out earth and tracks. When moving forwards the box collects the soil inside and backwards the box pushes the earth.

The most common way of using a box grader is forwards use then lifting the box up when enough soil has been collected from raised bumps or mounds. Then lowering the box and reversing to spread this out into any recesses. The blades are reversible when they are worn, but also easily replaceable, with spares available from Farm Tech Supplies.

The Winton Box Grader can be attached to the 3-point linkage of a range of small or compact tractors. It is advised to choose a box grader that is slightly wider than your tractor’s rear wheel span. The implement is quick and simple to fit and operate, saving both time and effort.

Operating

One of the main purposes of a box grader is to level areas of ground. These can be as diverse as sand menages, drives and seed beds. Loose material can be smoothed quickly and easily with the tines in the highest position, or removed, using only the scraper blades. More compacted or clumped soil, sand or gravel can be broken up by lowering the tines to a medium height.

When the tines are at their lowest, the box grader can be used to rip, uncompact, and aerate the soil to improve the health and drainage of the ground in that area. This means that the land is perfectly prepared for growing fruit, vegetables, and other plants in the best conditions.
